Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a tattoo?
Typically I charge $150 an hour for appointments if it’s something I know will take me longer than an hour to do. Pricing for smaller tattoos vary depending on the amount of supplies I will need to use and the area you are wanting to get tattooed. Areas such as ribs, neck, chest, face, butt, hands, and spines are more difficult areas to tattoo so they will typically cost a little more compared to arms and legs.
What is the shop minimum/ what is a shop minimum tattoo?
Our shop minimum for tattoos at Anchor Tattoo & Piercing is $80.
A shop minimum tattoo would be something that would take me longer to set up than do your tattoo or less than an hour and require one needle cartridge and one ink (black or one color). These are also limited to arms and legs only.
How much is a consultation and do I need one?
I do not charge for consultations :) They are not always necessary but if you feel more comfortable talking to me in person feel free to set up a time to come in and chat with me about your tattoo ideas! Sometimes I will ask you to come in for a consult first if I need to take pictures for cover ups or for larger projects to ensure we are on the same page with everything prior to your appointment.
How do I book an appointment?
To book an appointment please fill out an appointment request on my booking website. Please fill out the questionnaire when you book your appointment as this helps me stay organized and prepared for your appointment. Feel free to send me any reference pictures to my Facebook or instagram.
What is the best way to contact you?
Typically I am pretty fast at responding to messages on Facebook and instagram. Occasionally instagram will not notify me that I have a message request. I try to check for requests frequently however sometimes I do not see them for a while. Please feel free to comment on one of my posts or call the shop to let me know to check my messages. If it is an emergency or you are trying to check my availability for the day feel free to call the shop if it is during our working hours (Tuesday- Saturday 12pm-8pm).
Do you provide aftercare?
Yes! If you do not have any allergies to adhesives I use an adhesive wrap called Dermor. Occasionally I do run out but if you like this product and want to ensure that I have it feel free to purchase your own and bring it with you to your appointment. If you do have an adhesive allergy I will use a non adhesive wrap and provide you with different aftercare instructions.
How do I take care of my new tattoo?
Once it’s time to remove your adhesive wrap or if we did not use one, please keep your tattoo clean and moisturized. I always recommend to use a non scented antibacterial liquid soap and a non scented lotion. It is important that you do not use a bar soap as they can harbor bacteria! You do not want to over moisturize the tattoo or let it dry out too much. You should apply lotion to your tattoo the same way you would normally put lotion on by rubbing it in all the way. You do not want to glob anything on there such as aquaphore or other petroleum based products. It is also important to note that the better you take care of your skin before and after your tattoo the better your tattoos will heal and age over time so its always important to moisturize even after your tattoo is healed!
What about numbing cream?
I do not generally recommend using numbing cream. I understand that for some people in certain situations it can be necessary in order for you to be able to sit through your tattoo. I do not supply this and I will not apply it for you if it is something you need. If you are someone who needs numbing cream to be able to sit through your tattoo I just ask that you let me know ahead of time so I am aware. They do typically cause the skin to get puffy and swell to a certain extent, so please keep this in mind if you are just getting a small tattoo because more often than not it ends up taking me longer to do your tattoo than it would have with out it. So please try to use it only if it’s absolutely necessary and please research whatever product you use as they are not well regulated. Some of them have also been known to cause color tattoos to heal darker or discolored.
